The seven best movies set in Texas

7) A Perfect World - In a perfect world, Kevin Costner would've just stopped appearing in movies after making this small gem. 6) Bonnie and Clyde - Although it's not entirely set in Texas, the hyperviolent ending and Faye Dunaway's iconic sexuality ensure Bonnie and Clyde a spot on this list. 5) Dazed and Confused - Is it a backhanded compliment to say this is Ben Affleck's best movie? Fair enough. Then I'll aim higher and say this dead-on portrait of small town high school is my fourth favorite Richard Linklater, which is saying a lot. 4) Lone Star - Besides it being John Sayles' deepest work and featuring his best cast, it also boasts one of my favorite closing lines in film. 3) Days of Heaven - Efforts like this help to explain how Terence Malick can take off twenty years between movies and still keep a dedicated cult of fans enthralled. 2) Paris, Texas - There are so many things I could praise about Paris, Texas, from the acting to the writing to its unusual structure. But instead, I'll just say the colors are so gorgeous that they alone deserve a viewing. 1) The Last Picture Show - In a town where nothing seems to change, suddenly, everything is changing. Relationships are fracutring, teenagers are awkwardly fumbling toward adulthood, the people we always imagined as fixtures are one day gone. The only thing that hasn't changed is how vividly and memorably this movie captures it all.
